We started cliché with a simple idea – to create mixes that feel like they belong somewhere, rather than just being “out now.” What began as cliché 00000beta, an experimental first pass, has grown into a series of curated journeys through sound and feel, with 000003 as the latest iteration.
From the beginning, the goal hasn’t been about genre definitions or peak-time tracks. Instead, each mix is a reflection of what inspires us in a set: the subtle lift of a dub intro, the slow build into house grooves, the moments where Balearic warmth and disco leanings meet – all stitched together with intention.
Over the course of these first four releases we’ve drawn from the music we go back to again and again – DJs who shape our sense of flow and texture like DJ Harvey, David Holmes, Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnson, Gerd Janson, Lovefingers and Heidi Lawden. Their influence is not about imitation, but about the approach to sequencing, digging for obscurities, and letting the unexpected sit comfortably alongside more familiar grooves.
Equally important has been the thrill of discovering left-field tracks that feel at home in the studio and the mix alike. These are the records we return to when we’re working, listening, or thinking about how music moves a space – from deep dubby openers to memorable centre pieces and unexpected turns.
As cliché continues to expand, our focus remains the same: to curate and pull together mixes that feel personal, intentional, and discoverable on their own terms. Each new version is part of a wider collection – a small archive of sound that reflects where we are, what we love, and where we want to go next. Explore the series via our mixes page.
